Towards a Sustainable, Plant-Based Future: Our Policy for Ethical Sourcing
11 April 2024
The importance of increasingly plant-based nutrition
We live in a time where concerns for the environment, animal welfare, and health have become essential pillars of consumer choices.
At COP28 in December 2023, world leaders set out a plan to lead the planet towards zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in line with the recommendations of climate science. To achieve this goal, global carbon emissions are expected to peak by 2025.
Adopting a plant-based diet is the best way for individuals to reduce their environmental footprint, as it affects the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, water and waste consumption, and land use.
Atlante’s role in the plant-based alternatives market
Atlante has embraced this ethical vision from the very beginning. Almost 30 years ago, we were the first to launch soya-based beverages in mass retail. Over the years, we have expanded our assortment of plant-based drinks, and in 2004 we also started marketing meat alternatives – a new and little-known market at the time. To date, we have developed a wide assortment of plant-based drinks and meat alternatives in step with the evolution of the market and consumer needs, creating private label projects under our Vegamo brand and exclusively distributing the Vivera brand for the Italian market.
Our company policy, in line with Atlante’s values
Respect for the environment and the animal world are core values for Atlante, and guide every company decision. In 2024, with the aim of establishing clear business development guidelines to address these issues, we decided to formalise our commitment with a policy regarding the marketing of meat, poultry, and eggs.
The policy states that Atlante does not purchase or supply any primal cut of meat from any land animal or bird. A primal cut is defined as the first piece of meat to be separated from the carcass of a land or avian animal intended for sale for consumption. Every product containing animal ingredients must pass a rigorous evaluation by our Board of Directors, which carefully considers animal welfare and environmental impact before making a decision.
Special focus on the ethical sourcing of eggs
When it comes to eggs, Atlante is committed to not processing eggs from caged hens. Instead, we choose to support farming practices that respect animal welfare, sourcing only eggs from cage-free or free-range hens. We are aware that the way the hens are raised directly influences the quality of the eggs and their environmental impact, which is why we choose suppliers that meet the highest animal welfare standards.
Our policy is carefully designed to reflect our deep and authentic commitment to a sustainable and ethical lifestyle. Every decision we make and every product we offer must be aligned with this vision, which guides us toward a better world for all.
