Plant drumsticks revolutionise the Plant-based market

The market for plant-based alternatives in Italy continues to expand. Currently valued at nearly 710 million euros, the market has grown by 7% in value and 4% in volume compared to the previous period. Notably, the plant-based ready meals category, valued at 180 million euros, has outpaced overall market growth, with a 13% increase in value and a 14.5% increase in volume.

Ready meals are the top choice for Italian consumers who prefer plant-based options, whether fresh or frozen. According to a Bva Doxa survey for Food, 64% of respondents purchase products like burgers, strips, and meatballs.

Plant-based consumers generally show little brand loyalty. Only 21% of respondents have a preferred brand, indicating that these consumers focus more on the product type rather than the brand. They prioritise quality, taste, and innovation over brand recognition.

Price is the primary driver for purchasing plant-based products, followed by the nutritional benefits and taste of the product.
